Instagram user ID finder
Enter an Instagram username or paste a profile link to get the account's numeric user ID. The ID stays the same when the username changes, so it is the reliable way to keep track of an account. No login needed.
What is an Instagram user ID?
Every Instagram account has a numeric ID, such as 528817151 for @nasa, assigned when the account is created. The username is just a label on top of it. People can change their username as often as they like, but the ID never changes, and Instagram uses it behind the scenes to link the account to its posts, followers and messages.
How to find an Instagram user ID
Type the username, with or without the @, or paste a link such as instagram.com/username, and press search. IdSnoop looks up the account and shows its ID. Press Copy to put it on your clipboard. The Instagram app does not show the ID anywhere, so a lookup like this is the simplest way to get it.
Why the ID matters when an account changes its name
Scammers and impersonators often rename an account after they are reported, or take an old name once it is free. A saved username then points to the wrong account or to nobody. A saved ID always refers to the same account, so note it down whenever you report an account, collect evidence or keep track of a profile.
Private accounts
The user ID is part of every account's public profile, so the finder works for private accounts too. Posts, stories and followers of a private account stay private, and IdSnoop never shows them.
For developers and marketers
Many tools and APIs, including Instagram's own, identify accounts by ID rather than username. Looking up the ID once lets you keep your lists, spreadsheets and integrations working even after the accounts in them rename themselves.
Frequently asked questions
Does an Instagram user ID ever change?
No. The ID is assigned when the account is created and stays the same for the life of the account, even if the username, name or photo changes.
Can I find the ID of a private Instagram account?
Yes. The ID is public for every account, including private ones. Everything else on a private account stays private.
Will the person know I looked up their ID?
No. IdSnoop reads the public profile without logging in, so nothing is sent to the account and the lookup is not recorded on Instagram.
Can I find someone's old usernames from their ID?
Not from the ID alone. Instagram only lists former usernames for some accounts, under About this account in the app. Saving the ID now means you can always tell it is the same account later, whatever it is called.
Is the Instagram user ID finder free?
Yes. Looking up Instagram user IDs on IdSnoop is free and does not need an account.
